Historical -looking temple model with WIP pictures

What fantasy (or medieval) roleplaying game wouldn't need a temple? Here's one I made to put adjecent to marketplaces and other convinient spots on the game table.

Base construction

Base phases of the construction. The temple's main material is cardboard, pillars are semi-corrugated cardboard wrapped around pieces of wooden staff and stairs are foamcore with some filler/glue applied to them.

Here's a few pics from the model of my home farm in Asikkala where I grew up, to be a gift for my father. Above, you can see all but one of the buildings in the model. The models I've created before and given as a gift, now I'll create the terrain around and build it inside a glass -covered table.

How to create scratchbuilt starships (or anything)

If you want to create yourself cheap small-scale spaceships, you have two options available: Buy or find free papercraft starships, or scratchbuild them. This article shows you basics of scratchbuilding starships.

Tools

Materials and rules for scratchbuilding

1. Keep your eyes open; use anything, salvage things

Scratchbuilding Imperial Escort Carrier

While browsing through old photos, I found a few modelling/WIP photos of perhaps the most popular content of this site - miniature -scale Scratchbuilt Star Wars starships collection. I uploaded them here and at the same time, separated WIP pics and tutorials from the original Star Wars scratchbuilt starship models post to reduce the size and put them here to create one separate WIP/tutorial post. And sorry for rss spamming - I needed to change the title more relevant.

Make your players love their character's flaws

What flaws do you think this character has?

In a recent discussion about roleplaying mechanics I heard an opinion mentioning that character flaws should be a disadvantage and therefore rewarding well for playing them isn't something that should be done. My way of looking at flaws is completely opposite. While flaws are in general supposed to be a tool of balancing (or in practice min-maxing) characters, they work best as a tool to bring atmosphere, good story and drama to a game. And for this purpose, they work best if players want their flaws to cause them problems.

Miniatures and modelling: Quantity vs. Quality

When you are painting or creating miniatures, scratchbuilding terrain or designing papercraft gaming props, how much effort do you see? Are you going to make everything as detailed as possible, or are you fine with just something vaguely resembling you want it to resemble?

Modelling project: Creating dungeon terrain board

After spraying

This project started after I got tired of photographs of games taken on an old, almost white D&D miniatures battle map. I looked for vinyl mats first, but it started to look like the ones I was interested in weren't available anymore, and I wasn't perfectly happy about them either, so I decided to create real 3d ones of my own. I wanted to find a really strudy base for the terrains but couldn't find any, making me dig up some hardboard and use it as a base. The result was satisfactory, even if there is a bit distortion.

Modelling tutorial: How to create dunes/desert terrain

dune cardboard structure

I've been publishing a lot of roleplaying/gamemastery/miniatures articles recently, and now it's time to get back to modelling. This time I'll show your how to create realistic -looking dunes and desert terrain yourself.

Background and motivation

I've built a lot of fantasy terrain, but not before starting to play Star Wars miniatures game has it come to my mind to create desert terrain. As I started to do it, I realized that it's pretty simple so I could as well create a tutorial while doing it.
